Aug 29 (Field Level Media) – Tyler Huntley threw for a first-quarter touchdown to open the scoring, Joe Fagnano threw a TD pass and added a scoring run and the host Baltimore Ravens completed an unbeaten preseason by thrashing the Washington Commanders 41-3 on Friday night.
Huntley’s 25-yard touchdown pass to Chris Moore highlighted a 4-for-4 passing performance for 61 yards. Fagnano scored on a 1-yard run later in the opening quarter to give Baltimore a 14-0 advantage.
Tyler Loop booted a 51-yard field goal in the second quarter before Fagnano connected with LaJohntay Wester for a 10-yard touchdown. Fagnano completed 19 of 27 passes for 162 yards without an interception.
Jonathan Ward added a 2-yard touchdown run in the third quarter and finished with 53 yards on seven carries for Baltimore.
Washington got its only points on Drew Stevens’ 39-yard field goal before Loop answered with a 24-yarder to make it 34-3. Austin Reed connected with Cornelius Johnson on a 20-yard touchdown early in the fourth to complete the scoring.
Dontae McMillan led Baltimore on the ground with 70 yards on three carries, including a 63-yard run.
Falcons 17, Dolphins 12
In the final preseason tuneup before the team officially names a Week 1 quarterback starter, Tua Tagovailoa threw for 95 yards and lost a fumble for the visiting Falcons (2-1) in a 17-12 victory over Miami (0-3).
Tagovailoa, who appears to be the likely starter with Michael Penix Jr. unable to appear in the preseason after suffering a partially torn ACL last November, completed 7 of 8 passes against his former team before being lifted for Cooper Rush.
Tagovailoa hit Kyle Pitts Sr. for a 37-yard pass to highlight an opening drive that was stamped with Brian Robinson’s 3-yard touchdown rush. Atlanta’s second drive lasted one play as Tagovailoa lost a fumble on a botched snap.
Miami’s Cam Miller completed 7 of 16 passes for 71 yards and Mark Gronowski had 97 passing yards in relief. Former Falcon Riley Patterson’s four field goals accounted for the entirety of the Dolphins’ scoring.
Panthers 16, Texans 13
In a game that saw both teams rest their starters, Miles Davis rushed for a touchdown and Ryan Fitzgerald made all three of his field goal attempts to lift Carolina to a victory over visiting Houston.
Houston (0-3) committed three of its four turnovers in the first half. Backup quarterback Davis Mills was picked off by second-year safety Lathan Ransom, while journeyman Brett Rypien threw a touchdown, but lost a fumble and was intercepted by Cam Miller. Rypien got the majority of the run under center. He completed 13 of 23 passes for 101 yards and threw a 6-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to Zay Jones.
Kyle Trask (19-for-28, 147 yards and an interception) and Kenny Pickett (5-for-8, 48 yards) split time at quarterback for Carolina (3-1). Pickett is considered to be the likely second-stringer to Bryce Young when the regular season begins.
Giants 23, Jets 6
Jake Haener threw for a touchdown, Tyrone Tracy added another on the ground and the Giants stifled the Jets en route to an easy victory in each team’s preseason finale.
After stints by Jameis Winston (4-for-9, 54 yards and an interception) and Brandon Allen (8-for-12, 78 yards), Haener went 6-for-7 and found Xavier Gipson on a 37-yard touchdown.
In one final audition for the role of Geno Smith’s backup, none of the three Jets quarterbacks were overly impressive on Friday. Rookie Cade Klubnik threw for 59 yards and was picked off by Zaire Barnes, while Brady Cook threw for 26 yards and Bailey Zappe went 2-for-5 for 12 yards.
Damon Bankston led all rushers with 62 yards for the Giants (2-1), while Chip Trayanum, who left with a neck injury, had 38 yards on the ground and a touchdown for the Jets (1-2).
