SANTIAGO, Sept 8 (Reuters) – Consumer prices in Chile rose 0.6% in August from the previous month, data from statistics agency INE showed on Tuesday, exceeding a prediction of a 0.3% increase in a Reuters poll of economists.
“Notable increases were seen in the food and non-alcoholic beverages sectors, as well as in transportation,” INE said in a statement.
Nine of the 13 sectors surveyed recorded price increases in the month, led by food and non-alcoholic beverages, which prices rose 1.4% compared with the prior month, the report added.
Annual inflation in the world’s largest copper producer hit 4.1%, accelerating from a 3.5% increase registered in July and surpassing the central bank’s 2% to 4% target range.
